Monte Sleight

Lawrence Montgomery Terrell Sleight – more commonly known as Monte – has been practicing as a criminal defense attorney for over 20 years.  Monte got his start at the public defender’s office in S.L. County where he managed a case load ranging from misdemeanor possession and violent cases to complex matters like homicide and sexual offenses.  Since joining the firm, Monte has expanded his practice to include juvenile defense.  Monte also works closely with Brian Lofgren to deal with the complex overlap of Immigration and Criminal Defense.

Monte graduated from the SJ Quinney School of Law at the University of Utah in 1999.  While there he was a Leary Scholar and a member of the Utah Law Review.  He completed his education by participating in the London Law Program during his last semester of school.  Monte is also an Associate Professor with the Salt Lake Community College Legal Studies Program where he teaches criminal law, evidence, ethics, legal research and legal writing.

Monte has been a board member of the Utah Association of Criminal Defenders (UACDL) for over a decade. Monte served as President of the UACDL Board of Directors on two separate occasions.  Monte is also a founding member of the Pioneer Justice Center which was recognized by the Utah branch of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) for its contributions and efforts to protect the civil rights of protestors throughout Utah.

When not helping his clients, Monte likes to spend time with his family.  His family loves to travel, spend time in nature and just relax on a beach.  Monte has added several dogs, cats, rabbits and chickens to his family over the years and regularly supports organizations that advocate for animals.
