Mark Ethington obtained a bachelor's degree, cum laude, from Brigham Young University in 1982. He then went on to graduate from the J. Ruben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 1986 where he was a managing editor for the Journal of Legal Studies. He began his legal career as the prosecuting attorney for Sandy City where he gained extensive trial experience. He subsequently went in to private practice where he has developed a specialty in all types of personal injury cases including auto accidents, product liability, medical malpractice, slip and fall, wrongful death, and all other types of accidents. He has had extensive trial experience in both federal and state courts, and he is a member of the state and federal bar associations as well as the Utah Trial Lawyers Association. He has previously served as a judge pro tem in the Murray and Sandy Justice Courts. He is involved in community affairs as a volunteer chairman of the Taylorsville City Ordinance Review Committee and as a youth football coach. He and his wife Natalie are the proud parents of five children.
